I think one of the motivations for fandoms now desiring a cleanse of what makes us shameless freaks is the fact that we went mainstream. Especially during 2010-2014 where actors were shown NSFW art and fics on talk shows to fluster and embarrass them resulting in artists being shamed and having their works stolen and mocked. It only got worse. The desire to cleanse ourselves in fear of embarrassment in front of the public fed into the current state of fandom purity imo.

I don’t know why people don’t understand that being interested in a fictional dynamic between characters (however squicky it might be) DOES NOT equate with liking or supporting it irl. Like, just because I read Game of Thrones doesn’t mean I go around thinking that rape is okay!

Yeah it’s honestly terrifying that it’s becoming a default now in young fandom that think that liking = endorsing something. Thing is, it’s only with niche stuff and women, mainstream stuff like GoT doesn’t get this nonsense cuz they’d get laughed at. It only works on here and twitter. I mean if this was 2008 Carmector would have been huge but now it’s super niche and with dragon prince Claudia/Soren I know for sure would have been the second most popular pair.

I’m not into sheith but I am into actual literal incest ships like Zuko/Azula actually, and have posted several times about how problematic my stuff is. The Carmilla/Hector and Megatron/Starscream should have alarmed you that I’m into actual messed up stuff, not a big ship with a large following and similar purity/respectability politics from certain parts of it. I’m much much worse than sheith in regards to ships that make people uncomfortable and it baffles me that you honestly didn’t know that.
