Day 2: Family

”For what reason should I waste my time in learning history? There is no point in memorizing facts that do not influence us anymore”

Zarkon smiled: his son had apparently found a way to escape from his governess’s care and somehow managed to sneak in the throne room to complain to the rulers of the Galaxy about his lessons. The Emperor was amused by the young prince attitude. And so was his wife.

Without saying a word the woman walked down the dial and took the child’s hand. He looked a bit disappointed that his demand wasn’t taken seriously but followed his mother towards the panoramic window.

Zarkon knew that Haggar was about to explain something to the child and, judging by the curiosity on the kid’s face Lotor knew it too.

“Lotor, did you know that stars keep shining even after their death? Depending on the distance you are looking from it can take hundreds of decaphebes for a star’s light to reach you. When you look at the stars you are currently looking at the past. When you use the stars to orientate, you are literarily using the past as your guide. So even things from the past are part of our daily life”

Lotor knew the she was right but he was quite stubborn: “What if I refuse to memorize the names of the generals in the clan wars?”

“Then you will not be authorized in my lab anymore”

Haggar always knew how to bribe their son into following their orders, usually by sharing knowledge.

Looking at his family, Zarkon smiled. She kept answering Lotor’s questions about the stars and the planets and the inner workings of the universe. Even from some distance he could hear the passion in Haggar’s voice, the voice of the woman he fell in love so long ago.
