I’m just so tired of the VLD fandom, it’s really affecting me in a personal level because… it’s exausting, I’m just so tired, Aria. I want to be able to live VLD in a way that makes me happy but everytime that I try to look on social media or anything, I just see hate. I’m embarrassed to say that VLD is an important part of my life. I feel stupid.

yesterday, i had to explain to three different people who work in the animation industry what voltron is. they had never heard of it, or if they have, it was only in passing and they knew little more about it than it’s based on an 80s property. the world exists outside tumblr and fandom communities, and while i’m not surprised to observe this show slipping into that cringe phase where The Internet has decided it’s suddenly embarrassing to like or watch it anymore, that mindset is so localized that it doesn’t matter outside that little vocal bubble. it’s not stupid to enjoy a cartoon and consider it a big part of your life. there are plenty of worse things you can assign the same significance to. does it bring you joy? does it remind you of a particularly happy time in your life? then it’s not stupid, no matter what the show is or how ‘good’ it is.

the internet is full of a bunch of bullies. just this morning, a headcanon post of mine from a few months ago started circulating again, and every reblog was accompanied by novel-length call-outs and straight up attacks. over a headcanon. fucking yikes. ….so i blocked them all and moved on, because that headcanon is my opinion and it makes me happy and i don’t want to see hate every time i look at my post on my blog. boom. done. you do what you gotta do. i’ve said it time and time again that fandom is, paradoxically, an individual experience. you make of it what you choose to, and if that means disengaging from the fandom until a month after s8 premiers and the immature people vomiting pure, vitriolic hate finally leave so all we’re left with is nice art and gifs, then that might be the best path for you. i’ll see you there.

Thanks to you putting Mo Dao Zu Shi on my dash long ago it stayed on my rec list and today I watched the first two episodes and Holy Shit it’s so beautiful! The art direction is stunning! The fights are awesome and the music is lovely. I had no idea I was missing out on Chinese animation!

You’re welcome! I’m so happy that you’re enjoying it!

This is the best multi-fandom* blog validation!

I’m slowly dipping my toes into the Módào Zushi** fandom as well as the story, and I’m enjoying it thus far. There is so much to gush and fawn over—I don’t know where to start without info dumping—like you said though: art direction, fights, music…everything is beautiful. (●♡∀♡)

MDZS hits multiple right notes with me, as my first regular VHS rentals of international films were subtitled wǔxiá and Zhang Yimou [ 张艺谋 ] period-political dramas and tragedies.*** About 7 or so years ago I fell out of the habit of watching films from China, and it never occurred to me to look for animation.

Watching MDZS kind of feels like coming home to an old teacher, as Chinese films and Japanese animation got me out of my white semi-rural southern US cultural bubble.

Maybe it’s strange, but mostly I’m excited for Mò Xiāng Tóngxiù [ 墨香铜臭 ] because I think it’s great that her story has gone from web novel to comic to animation to radio drama (and soon live action) so quickly (like 3-4 years, that’s impressive). It’s wonderful that people outside of China can find out about it. I feel lucky to live in the Time of Internets. I hope the comic and/or animated series gets licensed for distribution for other languages and regions.

* MULTI-FANDOM HAS NO LANE ♡  (ʘ ꒳ ʘ✿)

** Hope it’s not too weird that I interchangeably use pinyin, hànzì, and common romanization for names and such…

*** As a teen, when anime was still hard to find in the U.S.

It really is amazing how huge the franchise is in such a short amount of time! It’s become such a mainstream thing in China according to many forums online. Heck the finale of the first season is what? This week and already season 2 is announced for 2019! I personally am very new to ancient China dramas so it took me a bit of adjusting to with honorifics and courtesy names, but I do read some niche Chinese web comics enough to follow what’s going on. I’m very, very tempted to explore more. I saw a tweet that showed off what other Chinese animation is capable of so it’s something I really want to dip my toes into. I mean, more of beautiful animation and music? Sign me up!

No it’s not weird at all and you’re currently my go to person for recs for those reasons haha. I take wisdom from the experienced who went through a lot of different media and genres

I cannot recommend Mo Dao Zu Shi enough. I think it’s a must watch for reasons above plus lots of likable characters and story. The story is very intriguing and I never knew how chilling Chinese zombies were till I watched this. I’m practically flying by the episodes!

I wish I didn’t have to squint at all She-Ra blogs to know if this is a decent person or a harasser like. For a second I think okay they say they don’t discourse then they can’t be an ant then they say stuff that makes you go

Anyways Shadow Weaver looks amazing and apparently she wants Adora back at her side so I’m hoping they’re taking that “am I not like a mother to you” line from the original and expanding on it.
