Really there is no greater irony than the fact that I used to support the don’t ship problematic stuff while reading Zuko/Azula and it recently turns out that one of the fav works of the pair that wrote my woobie Azula turns out to be that hypocrite that came at arahir. Truly this is karma finally hitting me 😂

Holy fuck you’re an ex anti?

No, one of the proto antis. The anti libel didn’t really happen till 2015, but I had some of their concepts early on before they were further bastardized. Mainly the stupid argument about enjoying m/m means you’re fetishizing gay men *cringe* and a lot of Holier Than Thou attitude, and that being an Arab and Muslim and queer made me the spokesmen about all representation and issues relating to the topic. Back then it wasn’t death threats, it was mostly doxxing, which I never supported -thank god otherwise I wouldn’t live with that guilt- and did support the don’t ship minors with adults and problematic ships for performative reasons while reading Azula/Zuko incest in private 😂 😂 😂 it’s all on my blog you’re free to lurk and remind me of the shit I used to say. Good luck with the cringe tho.

Re: your last post, PREACH! I’ve noticed that fandoms tend to gang up on shows that at least TRY to give them any type of marginalized representatiom, rather than critisizing shows that don’t even acknowledge the existance of LGBTQ+ people or POC. And I don’t really understand why this happens.

Respectability politics, and higher expectations? I recall in 2014 I made a reaaaallly crappy posting saying I expected better from Jane the Virgin cuz it’s made up primarily of Latina women and had representation, basically a show that tries. Its queer women did questionable things and I insisted that it should be better. The thing is, I don’t even recall why I thought like that. One of the proto anti ideas that are actually very common on the internet now, not just with antis. Why are shows that try punished? Is it because their creators are more accessible? Is it because since it tries, fans can feel entitled to controlling how it tries? Because mainstream stuff that doesn’t bother is left safe, and that is sending a very bad message to narrow minded higher ups who don’t hear legitimate criticisms or cries of outrage, but rather that people don’t want queer rep. I’m just as lost as you are and I was part of the problem myself so that’s telling. But from what I recall it was heavily based on respectability politics that are much worse now, preaching no rep is better than flawed rep.

With how 3 people on She-Ra so far have shown themselves to be unprofessional by taking cheap shots at Voltron, the show that more than likely got their show green-lit in the first place and made it easier to include rep since they took the major heat first to allow others to take easier steps, it’s gonna be a disaster in terms of fandom that’s for sure. I said before that fandoms these days will not accept any queer rep no matter how perfect or how hard it was to get it, SU got nearly the perfect rep and look at the state of that show and how it gets punished. They are practically begging discourse since they are liking horrid behavior from fans and supporting it so it will bite them in the ass big time. Liking tweets about breaking Lauren’s fingers, a senior at the same company is just, good lord. If the show doesn’t show rep from the first couple of episode it will be hell.

Three smug bastards now. Dragon Prince is safe for another two years before certain people turn on it too but She-Ra will start from day one. When you present your rep as the most prominent thing about your show, in the state of fandom and the high standards and expectations and respectability politics sphere, you’re bound to disappoint those expectations when it’s not perfect. She-Ra has more advantage than voltron in terms of presenting rep due to reasons stated above, and the fact that “girl shows” are allowed to do more in rep than “boy shows” since the latter has higher ups more threatened by homosexuality, especially male homosexuality and presume young boys will feel the same, so you know the struggle to make Shiro queer was very, very difficult. A lot of people online forget who has power irl and how they think. BL is I will not engage in fandom because I can sense that mess from now.
