captain-vulture:

This season we unfortunately didn’t get a chance to see Haggar, only for the duration of the Feud. However, we did get some hints that she’s coming back, mainly in the form of the Druids, but also at the end. The giant white mosquito mecha that worked like the komar and would come to suck the quintessence out of Voltron.

Which tells us a lot bout what Haggar’s up to. For one, she’s advanced her technology far greater than before. The komar where once large and immovable, is now just one power in a single mecha robot. And the Alteans that are used to power them, don’t deplete of their quintessence when in use.

But also, the robot itself tells us of another drastic change in Haggar. Notably, the aesthetics itself. It’s a purely white robot, where mechas in the past on this show have been in a range of colors. It tells us that Haggar’s completely changed her wardrobe, and has adopted a brand new aesthetic different from the galra one altogether. This interests me greatly, cause this difference reminds of a certain plot point from DOTU with the Lion goddess.

In DOTU, Haggar was said to disguise herself to lure voltron in so she could wreck it. I doubt they’re gonna take that route, but it’s interesting considering that we already saw the Lion goddess back in s5ep6 in Oriande. And we know Haggar is just as blessed as Allura is. It’s possible that Haggar might actually present herself and her blessed power like that. Her power come s8, is gonna be unmatched and almost god-level.

It becomes more harrowing when you consider another piece of evidence. Back in s1ep4, the Arusians thought that Allura was the Lion Goddess, one who people have to sacrifice themselves for.

Allura rejects this notion, but I find it interesting that this is done with Allura, who we later learn is blessed with Oriande powers. What if that was meant to foreshadow the Lion Goddess Haggar who takes the Altean colonists and makes sacrifices out of them.

As little as we saw of Haggar her influence and overarching presence and impact promise a chilling finale. The Druids were left open for the finale part as well as the Alteans, which she may or may not be getting to work for her willingly, since she is their messiah’s mother after all. So she has Druids trying to please her and Alteans to rule over. Allura’s arc during the latter half of the first arc -s2- tied heavily to her, and with all the callbacks to the first act this is one aspect for sure to take center stage. Allura is going to get her people back -and a new crown when she is made official queen please- but the battle with Haggar will not be an easy one. She so far has proven herself to the be the most chilling antagonist we have ever faced, having plots that are greater than any have shown before.

One major criticism I have of this season is that once we got to earth, the girls really didn’t get their shine as they did the previous two arcs. It felt like a typical mecha show in how the main women are sidelined which was the weakest link. However with the reveal at the end about Haggar I have high hopes that picks up Allura’s role especially during the last season.
