Even Lotor’s desire to learn is different from hers in two main components-source and lengths they will go to. Lotor wants to learn things either because they are useful, or because they are means by which he can connect emotionally with his ideals (ex. intrest in Altea, validating his halfbreed status, connection to image of Honerva he built up…) while Honerva wants knowledge just for sake of it, and is willing to do anything that will bring it. Even endangering herself.

I see several fics that have comet fall on Altea and so situation with villains and Empire ends reversed….but can anybody honestly believe that of all Alteans to become corrupted Honerva ” oh I am suffering from quintessence poisoning, bed ridden and barely able to speak coherently, throw me in the Rift” wouldn’t already have moved her whole house on it’s edge before any other Altean had time to blink and deposed of Alfor when he tried to stop her experiments? Like, thing so many people

forget about her is that whether as Haggar the Emperor’s witch or innocent Altean scientist, Honerva is utterly driven by sheer, desperate hunger to understand universe, no matter the cost, and I think it’s beautiful we have such despicable villain (and female one at top of that!) who is solely moved by need to understand,.

It blows my mind that people look at this scene and still want to dismiss the fact that Haggar is his mother, either suggesting a mistress or otherwise. This is such a good shot of mother and son, you can see the exact traits he inherited, and the fact that this is a good scene in general, as it tells us all about their relationship. Haggar feels entitled to control Lotor and send people after him, Lotor throws tantrums and walks away when she reacts with apathy towards his feelings. It also implies that despite the rocky relationship with both his parents, he prefers Haggar, as he still backed down after his tantrum, either because he wanted out before she actually got annoyed with him, or not wanting to pick a genuine fight with her.
