So I was doodling Narti just now and when I got to her hood it reminded me of a nun’s coif and card (the headpieces of a nun’s habit) and then it occured to me what it reminded me of:
the robes of the druids.
I’ve dabbed on this before but the order of the druids and they led by High Priestess Haggar remind me very much of a common media depiction of a religious cult with their religious titles and practices like
this looks like an occult circle.
Going back to Narti, what do we know of her power?
Apparently it’s some sort of ancient, dark power that allows her to mind control people. Which given how Haggar herself is able to mind control and watch Lotor through Narti’s mind, must in some way be connected to the magic used by Haggar and her druids.
So what am I getting at?
I believe that Narti, before joining Lotor and the other generals, was most likely in a cult of some sort. Particularly, one that most likely worships the rift monsters, as they are the ones that seemingly gave Haggar her powers. And considering the whispers we hear when Narti is controlling someone, they are most likely the rift monsters that reside within her speaking and giving her the power to control people like Throk. She probably participated in a practice while in the cult that transferred them into her, and gave her this unworldly power.
And like dressing as something you practice isn’t really out of the question in Team Sincline’s armor design when you consider how Lotor dresses like a Galran scientist. Like it’s possible that while Narti herself isn’t a member of the cult anymore, that she still practices the “rituals” so she dons the appropiate clothing along with it.
So my theory is? Some time before the events of show, Narti was with this cult. Something happened that made her want to leave the organization, but you know how cults are – they don’t really like members picking up and leaving. She was most likely hunted down, but before they could drag her back/hurt her Lotor came around and recruited her for his mission seeing as her power would be useful for his goals.
And, if this is how it all went down, it gives a sense of irony that the way Narti died in “Black Site” was cause the leader of the druids – the cult – possessed her which lead to her being cut down by Lotor himself. Which when you consider how cults go around dealing with members that stray, one could argue that her past inevitably caught up with her and ultimately doomed her. Like the irony.
