I think one of the motivations for fandoms now desiring a cleanse of what makes us shameless freaks is the fact that we went mainstream. Especially during 2010-2014 where actors were shown NSFW art and fics on talk shows to fluster and embarrass them resulting in artists being shamed and having their works stolen and mocked. It only got worse. The desire to cleanse ourselves in fear of embarrassment in front of the public fed into the current state of fandom purity imo.

Tumblr sure as hell can’t. They’re already freaking out over people feeling sexually attracted to fictional characters.

I had to let out a mini rant of something that’s been bothering me of late. Usually it’s easier to ignore but this morning till now has been terrible. Please, if you have opinions that are opposite of mine, voice them on your own posts. Whatever your opinions are, I couldn’t care less. I just don’t want to be subjected to them. I don’t want to constantly see negative comments just because it irks people that someone is enjoying an aspect or character differently or at all. The Castlevania gifs get so many negative vanilla comments and i’m just like, you can have that but not on my stuff you know? It’s draining and it’s very entitled to go “lmao this bitch blocked me for my opinion what a two-faced hoe/ so much for being respectful to my interpretation like she claims” etc. I just wanna enjoy stuff without vitriol on my own stuff. Even if the character is horrible or you have personal issues with, you can rant about them all you want, just not on my stuff. It’s similar to seeing hate on your fav in their tag as an example, but without making the choice of going there.

I don’t know what post you’re referring to, cuz frankly I get a lot of nonsense so I tend to lose track of things. The trend I keep noticing tho, is that those that disagree with me or others like you in similar stances have us dismissed as white to be silenced and discredited. While either being white themselves or a token among white friends with major guilt complexes. I think it’s poor attempts at spite more than anything at this point. 

Saw your post about She-ra and how unprofessional they are. Take a peep at Mickey Quinn’s (storyboarder, character designer for She-ra’s) recent likes.

Saw it first thing in the morning and I’ll say the same thing I said on twitter. They’re just asking for it at this point. Hotshots who think they’re the best thing to ever happen to children animation cuz of their queerness. Not because they’re good storytellers or good professional people. They’re setting themselves up to be in voltron’s shadow over and over again.

Shitting on their seniors and what they fought for only to have nothing but tokens to show for it. When Voltron ends the whole we love shera to spite Voltron thing is gonna be over and the turning will start. Right now they’re all happy cuz they think catr//dora will be the canon KL they deserved but when that’s not the case hell will break loose. Shera didn’t start anything new in terms of background queer couples and gender nonconformity, SU did that and look at how much shit that gets. It’s only a matter of time.

The animation industry is small and tight-knit. They all know each other and Talk. Even with no official blacklist I can’t see any of these people getting hired anytime soon after this. In general it seems so envious. Coming at a show with a consistent over 90% on rotten tomatoes while having a below avarge rating and a show while fine and fun still shows the lack of experience of the crew and a catty attitude towards “old farts” is just. Damn. Wow. Reeks of major envy no matter what your feelings on quality of voltron is.

Not to mention the elephant in the room. The show took many beats from Voltron cuz they work, and has references to it. Just a bad look for a rookie crew. Career suicide.

So, shera

It’s cute. It has potential. The theme is catchy. It’s what I expected it to be but with more hiccups. For one you can really tell it’s a crew of rookies. The format and writing style doesn’t feel like modern cartoons, but instead stuck in the 80s format, and I think that’s because the crew just didn’t have enough confidence to fully update things and generally this is their first time writing/producing/animating for TV. When it slows down it really slows down, but it’s still fun. It does not meet the hype in the slightest, which I expected. 

The villains are the best part of the show, they have the most fun interactions and dynamics and characterization. Catra is especially well-rounded and compelling, choosing to become worse and even aspire to take Shadow Weaver’s place, essentially trying to surpass her foster mother. The dynamic between Hordak and Shadow is the same as the 80s baddie and dragon, sadly. They lacked the ability to update that in a more interesting way. Shadow is a magnificent bastard with great voice and some depth to her, and her relationship with her wards is interesting. Low-key funny in some of the delivery. Scorpia is just a delight and the most likable character in the entire show. 

Now let’s talk crew. Here is where I get salty and I will be mentioning the official hyped up rep that is tokenism at its finest and why *those* people are okay with that

I’m just here going, this is what you were so smug about? This is what you were so confident about? This is what you used to shit on voltron crew and endorse harassment and negativity towards them, and still have the gall to have a voltron reference in your show? You smug snake hotshots, especially Rae, your rep is token side characters that don’t even do anything and talk for like 7 seconds in the whole show. They have no personality or trait other than they’re always together. This is what you used as your selling point to why everyone should watch you guys show the old farts how it’s done? And then reference voltron and capitalize on the fans cuz you promised them you’d do better???

Unethical tbh. Zero integrity. Being a rookie hotshot in a small industry that talks might not get you officially blacklisted, but with how everyone respects each other and are friends your ass isn’t getting hired. And for anyone wondering no, they did not do better. Shiro, Ezor, and Zethrid are characters first, people first, before their queerness. SheRa did not do that. The reason people are so happy is because they’re convinced catradora is gonna be endgame. They treat is as the rep they deserved on voltron, and that is begging disaster. Heck before the drop our fav smug rookie Rae posted catradora art and time will not look back fondly at that. And no, the tokens aren’t even explicit cuz of censorship. So their personality traits aren’t even their queerness. They have negative zero personality. 

The She-Ra thing I really want to talk about tho is how certain fans have hyped it up with “it’ll teach voltron a lesson” and i noticed that the trend these days is praising tokenism as the best type of rep. I mean, I kinda get it cuz these people’s only personality trait is their queerness, which is part of one’s identity, but shouldn’t be the sole interesting thing about you, cuz take that away and what else is there. Depictions of characters as people first and then revealing their queerness later on is now punished, look at Shiro for prime example, and a slight hint of that in how people regard Runaan when they were watching the show and going where is the rep where is the rep etc. 

She-Ra is clearly going to be a fun magical girl show with maybe some hints of darkness down the line, but people from all sides are building different types of hype. There’s the purity crusade building it up as the most amazing representation purity haven ever -which will get them majorly aggressive when they see the thing in my last post and showing villains as the most interesting part of the show- and people who are against it cuz of horrible behavior from smug snake hotshot stroyboarders and artists and who latched on to the show, and dudebros that are mad SheRa isn’t here to teach little girls how to be attractive to men. All factors dooming the show, as well as the bizarre choice of day cuz Friday drops are the best for binge watching especially for younger viewers. 

On one hand this feels like karma to those that acted out, but those above like Stevenson and those that are there in good faith without a weird jealously issue towards voltron -my guess is that it’s the A project where all the pros went to and got the best treatment from dreamworks- so I will be giving it a chance because it does appeal to me, especially now knowing how the villains are the best part. 

I smell major discourse. Seems like naughty staff members will be punished sooner rather than later after all. Karma ain’t waiting around for them cuz people like Rae used this as the main selling point to shit on Voltron etc. 

This is amusing until it gets deadly. I was already interested in the show cuz the little girl inside me wants this, and from this interview it seems like I’m getting the villain stuff I been needing, such as Shadow Weaver and Catra almost parent-child dynamic. RIP naughty staff, but I sure will be enjoying what the show has to offer, I need something pure fun, just no engagement whatsoever with a fandom that will beat SU and voltron in terms of good lord what is wrong with them.

This is such a bait that I wanted to ignore, but you know what? I want to make things clear on here for everyone to know if they want to nope out of here. Since some people didn’t sign up for femdom content when they followed this blog. I have, over the years, posted much femdom with all variations, but most prominent being ones where WoC are the ones in control. 

Are there unfortunate implications with my current ship? Yes. Are you entitled to feel disgusted by it? Oh yes. Are you entitled for my clarification and assumptions made about me? No. Yet here I am humoring you anyways, because you at least deserve to know what this blog is about to block/blacklist/see what tags I’m using/unfollow etc etc. I find it ironic that this was sent right as I was reblogging a relevant post about characters of color and the policing that goes on with them. You have the tools to control what you see, and you signed up for a show that promised this level of messed up dynamics. Use the tools at hand and ignore me, it’s all up to you. Don’t try to police characters of color and how they’re being used, otherwise you won’t find any content for them, and that helps literally no one.
