I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! It warms my heart when people say this to me, you’re not the first to tell me they hesitated due to who latched on to it and i’m humbled that you took my word for it ❤ I have seen those insane expectations as well, which sadly are bound to cause drama when a person expects a cartoon to be something it is not or to provide something that the fans hyped up themselves right off the bat. The show has much freedom due to its indie nature for sure, but it’s meant to be a fun time first and foremost imo which is why I picked it up and was not disappointed. If you do not want to see annoyances, I’m the poor sucker that navigates for you for the most part. Just keep enjoying it with your friends and those you already follow and you’ll be having great fun.
Listen, I love media and stories and interesting characters… but fictional characters are not more important than real people. If your dedication to fandom outstrips your ability to be decent to existing humans… you have an actual, serious problem and need to take a step back. As in, seek help and remove yourself from online fandom until you can participate without becoming a bully. Media is not a ‘safe space’ for you if you’re using it as an excuse to abuse others.
Well, speaking from experience here, cartoon and fictional characters are more real to the socially inept people on here, because they do not socialize with real humans enough. Kids on this site form deep emotional connections to fiction and with the lack of positive interactions with their peers -oftentimes cuz they deem their peers too impure of thought for problematic world views- leads to deeming fictional characters as more worthy of protection than real people. It’s funny, people on here are so controlling on what older women enjoy because they firmly believe other people are like them, unable to fully separate fiction from reality, and believe only they can be trusted with challenging themes -like the mediocre devilman crybaby when it came out- because others are too impure of thought. Guess isolation from the real world makes you a moral guardian from the 90s.
I’m using normal and sane in terms of what a person with capacity would act like. This site uses mental illness as a shield and claim of lack of capacity which is so insulting to those who function in society with mental illnesses and disabilities. It’s like saying mental illness = lack of capacity. Thus treating many adults -and frankly I classify 16 and beyond adults cuz you have capacity to tell right from wrong and handle yourself- like children. Nevermind that many with mental illnesses and disabilities constantly have to fight to prove their capacity in a society that automotcally assumes they’re no better than children. But in all honestly this site really is the worst place for a young person with mental health problems to be in because it fuels and feeds paranoia and anxiety and encourages it. It’s just a recipe for disaster and shame on older teens encouraging this in younger ones.
Sometimes after spending time away from the internet talking to the teenagers in my life and then coming back online and seeing how batshit teens are on here I just think to myself, man, teens on here really don’t interact with their peers don’t they. And I know it for a fact cuz I used to be like that. So it’s discouraging to see posts go “teenagers these days are like toddlers” when in reality it’s just teens on here. Teens around me are sane normal functioning people that would laugh at the insanity that goes on here by teens that are too anxious to make phone calls and never went to a house party speak in authority and act like controlling shipping is activism. In a way I pity “teens” on here cuz most of them are 19 and still calling themselves minors and I just know they think normal teens that function in society are beneath them and bullies and less morally pure. Truly a strange time when normal teens are out there wanting to be adults while the shut ins on here want to be babies only when excusing their nonsense.
Because I’ve been seeing sentiments lately about “this gif maker/artist/meta writer blocked me for my comment lmao what a petty dumb bitch it wasn’t even negative” I feel like ranting about this. I’ve been making gifs for months now and meta for years and it’s exhausting and draining to see negative comments on scenes you giffed, or negative sentiments that you might not precieve as negative yourself but it is to us due to previous comments. Blocking is not petty, it’s a right and self care.
You’re not entitled to be heard or seen in our reblogs. I sometimes block people just cuz I hate seeing their comments on my stuff. I delete stuff like “still hate this character/scene” and block people in the tags being unhinged and misogynistic or whatever. Stop feeling entitled for the time and energy of those who put out things for joy and then be met with reactions they don’t want to see. I’ll block if I don’t want more people to reblog with a certain comment or copy-pasted tag. I’ll block if someone is projecting too hard on fun meta. I’ll block if I want the gif to be mere aesthetic look not an open discussion. For the love of god, the only pettiness is refusing to sympathize. Don’t act like a victim cuz someone doesn’t want to be drained.
Which one of you is going to be the one navigating the dragon prince tag and reblog stuff from non trash annoying people cuz my heart aches just going through the tag nearly reblogging, checking OP, then block instead. Someone has to take one for the team.
I need to just to learn to ignore things because people really be on my last nerves on this site and I value my blood pressure too much to let people bring me to that level.
I’m talking with some friends over how some of the dream daddy fandom went down.
It took like a week before an artist got death threats over fanart and the devs had to step in and even the devs started getting harassed and death threats.
and before that, people harassed the devs over having to push back the release date so they could work on fixing a game-breaking bug.
and before that people harassed the devs over the “cult ending” that doesn’t even exist.
and then before that people spread rumors and told people to pirate the game because it was profiting off of LGBT people and developed by cishet white guys (Game Grumps) even though they didn’t do anything except promote the game and lend their voices.
and as a bonus, that one asshole that tried to scam people into making what was basically a rip off of dream daddy.
and within like, a month or two of the games release the fandom had died out. It’s sad because Dream Daddy from what I know is an actually good game. It’s just that the level of drama and identity politics within the fandom basically killed it. People want and literally talk about craving diversity and representation in media but when they get it, they just ajdlfakdafdfad fucking demolish and find everything that is wrong with it.
People are, for some inexplicable reason, more critical of people actually trying to represent LGBT issues and communities than they are of people Actively pretending we don’t exist.
People, especially on Tumblr, are unkind and stupid.
Tumblr.hell: WE DEMAND REPRESENTATION!!
Dream Daddy: *was an entertaining, fun filled game centred on gay and bisexual representation, plenty of ethnic and body diversity, a canon trans love interest, the option of player character being trans, made lovingly by a group of people championing acceptance*
Tumblr.hell: *tore it to pieces, screeching and making up lie after lie, sent death threats to devs, and destroyed its chances at having a long lasting place in pop culture out of sheer spite and stupidity*
With how 3 people on She-Ra so far have shown themselves to be unprofessional by taking cheap shots at Voltron, the show that more than likely got their show green-lit in the first place and made it easier to include rep since they took the major heat first to allow others to take easier steps, it’s gonna be a disaster in terms of fandom that’s for sure. I said before that fandoms these days will not accept any queer rep no matter how perfect or how hard it was to get it, SU got nearly the perfect rep and look at the state of that show and how it gets punished. They are practically begging discourse since they are liking horrid behavior from fans and supporting it so it will bite them in the ass big time. Liking tweets about breaking Lauren’s fingers, a senior at the same company is just, good lord. If the show doesn’t show rep from the first couple of episode it will be hell.
Three smug bastards now. Dragon Prince is safe for another two years before certain people turn on it too but She-Ra will start from day one. When you present your rep as the most prominent thing about your show, in the state of fandom and the high standards and expectations and respectability politics sphere, you’re bound to disappoint those expectations when it’s not perfect. She-Ra has more advantage than voltron in terms of presenting rep due to reasons stated above, and the fact that “girl shows” are allowed to do more in rep than “boy shows” since the latter has higher ups more threatened by homosexuality, especially male homosexuality and presume young boys will feel the same, so you know the struggle to make Shiro queer was very, very difficult. A lot of people online forget who has power irl and how they think. BL is I will not engage in fandom because I can sense that mess from now.
