I just finished up the Galra generals + Krolia Buttons! I might make this into a button set as well as selling them individually, so if you buy the whole set it will be significantly cheaper :))
can we talk about this small moment here? Haggar sounds like such an exasperated mom. Everything, from the way she says “enough” to the tone when she tells Lotor that he can’t lead, heck even how the generals stand round back of her like kids behind their mom just makes this scene.
The way he instantly looks up at enough too you know that’s a 10K years worth of incoming scolding he’s prepared for.
A bit salty but can people stop analyzing Acxa and the other generals based off of their counterparts?
Like I like sibling theory and do think it’s most likely going to be canon, but sharing genes with Keith doesn’t negate how Acxa’s her own autonomous character with her personality and experiences – experiences that she doesn’t share with Keith at all. As such, while there’s some similarities between them, overall there’s a lot of key differences in how they act and respond to situations. Acxa is a quite person whose not driven by her emotions typically. She makes plans, and is at her most comfortable when she and her team sticks to them. In contrast, Keith wears his heart on his sleeve, and his outbursts are when he tries to hide his emotions when he’s not that kind of person by nature. Acxa on the other hand, is. This shows that while the two of them parallel, they’re also different.
The same goes for the other generals and more. While Acxa and Keith’s similarities can be chocked up to being siblings, the other generals aren’t even related to their counterparts. As counterparts, yeah, they’re gonna have similarities – similarites such as narrative framing or thematic, if it gets there. But outside of that there aren’t much in similarity.
Narti, for example, parallels Pidge cause they both are able to control/extract info from people by in Pidge’s case technological manipulation and Narti’s mind manipulation. While they’re both getting info, notice how they go about it different. And that’s not just there. Narti is reserved quite, and hard-working, never leaving her post or getting distracted. While Pidge focuses on her tech stuff heavily, outside of that we’ve seen Pidge also get lonely, is aggressively protected and motivated by finding her family and so forth. We haven’t had these points with Narti, and I doubt we will. Parallel doesn’t mean an inverse clone after all.
And the same with Ezor and Lance. Ezor, like Lance, is visbly expressive. Emotions wise, she’s very open (at least around her friends) and when she grieves it’s quite overt and obvious, just like how Lance openly misses his family. However, that doesn’t mean Ezor is exactly like Lance in everything, just in somethings. Ezor is also a vindictive person, and enjoys messing with people in ways we’d never see Lance do. While Lance can and has mocked people before (hello Keith and Lotor) we’d never see that with Ezor do that to the other generals. Again cause they’redifferent people, not two clones on opposite sides.
Zethrid and Hunk’s differences couldn’t be more obvious. Zethrid, while motivated to protecting her teammates, also thinks there’s some merit to gaining power and having dominion. This a far call from how we had Hunk in s1ep7 emphasized his duty is to stop the empire from expanding, as they’re destroying lives. It makes sense, given that Zethrid is a villain, where Hunk is one of the heroes, after all. And that’s not including how Zethrid herself enjoying fighting, albeit with an opponent that’s on her level. Hunk’s the opposite, who only fights when he needs to. These contrasts are part of the parallelism yes, but it shows that Zethrid is her own person, while Hunk’s his own.
To conclude, one cannot easily replace the personality of a general with their counterpart in Team Voltron, cause they’re fundamentally different people. They contrast each other in parallelism befitting their status as rivals but beyond that? You can’t say something like how Hunk likes to cook therefore Zethrid loves cooking for her team. Or that Acxa’s temperamental cause Keith blows his top sometimes. They’re different people.
So we all know that Team Sincline is an antagonistic mirror of Team Voltron. And we’ve seen Lotor wielding the black bayard, and we know keith & acxa are siblings
but, I have yet to see anyone acknowlege that ezor, zethrid, and narti are the garrison trio’s counterparts. which is such a wasted opportunity because imagine, just imagine, narti brainwashing an enemy for the sake of using it to pull pranks. imagine ezor sneaking narti & zethrid out to some boujee nightclub colony because “hello… pizza, dancing, girls??? we gotta bond guys”. imagine zethrid learning to cook and forcing it on lower-ranked soldiers who are too scared to do anything but praise her. imagine ezor convincing herself she has a rivaly with acxa and acxa having no clue they were anything but friends.
I think the show implies it a bit? We see these real evident and focused connections in show between Ezor, Zethrid, and Narti. Scenes such as how Ezor apologizes to Narti for making that blind joke and how Zethrid plays with Kova suggest that the three were close. In season 5 we also see how Ezor and Zethrid run off to torment the guards while Acxa stays behind and sulks waits for Haggar’s orders. The latter is very similar to how in season 1 where Keith was the odd man out in the gun sounds scene.
Though I wouldn’t say that Ezor has a rivalry with Acxa currently, as we see how Ezor regards her very much like a friend and not much hostility. She has no hesitance in addressing Acxa and joking around with her (even if Acxa herself shows reciprocation in the jokes) in contrast with how uncomfortable Lance was around Keith, particularly in “Tailing a Comet” with bedroom scene.
There’s also no mocking in part of Ezor towards Acxa, like how Lance did with Keith’s “guys we need to focus” in “Blade of Mamora.” The only time they’ve actually “butted heads” was when Acxa corrected Ezor’s terminology about the alternate reality and Ezor’s immediate reaction was to sigh in frustration and repeat her initiation statement with the correction in a sarcastic tone.
Though, this doesn’t really suggest a rivalry, but Ezor’s frustration does suggests Acxa’s corrections happens on a regular basis, and it annoys the heck outta Ezor. They’re good friends, though I can see them having a sort of competitive streak when it comes to games like sports or something.
Overall, I’d say the girls are much closer as a group than the Keith and the Garrison Trio are. We have the little moment where Acxa smiles when Ezor brings up Narti
(note that she drops it when Ezor mentions “where it got her”) and Narti, Ezor, and Zethrid are all comfortable with Acxa’s position as leader and even look to her in needed situations. Acxa, while a stick in the mud, doesn’t try to stop Ezor and Zethrid from having their fun with the crew in s5. And both Ezor and Zethrid knew Acxa well enough that in “begin the Blitz” that they both waited for her to admit to herself that Lotor’s gone off the rails before their betrayal. They knew Acxa would come around eventually, even if she takes a while.
So yes all the girls would go have fun with one another. They’d try to get Acxa to come, but it won’t always happen cause Acxa’s “the no fun allowed” type, but who knows she might be wiling this time. Or perhaps they drag her along if they really need four people. And that can include pranks (probably on Lotor) shopping adventures, the beach, or just places of amusement.
Crack theory but I think Zethrid and Ezor will form an odd friendship with Haggar. They both have a bit of Cossack from OG and he got along well with Haggar and even joked about kissing her. Idk I feel like they’ll be warming up to her over the course of the 33 remaining episodes.
